Yet another plaster casting injury - why life casting should not be done directly into plaster

A school has been ordered to pay £19,000 after a pupil had most of her fingers burned off in an horrific classroom incident.
The 16-year-old girl lost all but two fingers after her hands became fixed in a bucket of plaster of Paris during an art lesson in January 2007.  She had not received proper warning while attempting to make a sculpture of her own hands during the lesson at Giles School in Boston.
Neither classmates, staff, nor paramedics could remove her hands as they began to cook from inside the mould at temperatures of up to 60C.

So be warned - NEVER PLACE ANY PART OF THE BODY DIRECTLY INTO PLASTER.  Alginate is a skin safe moulding compound that will give beautiful detail & does not give off any heat.

The Mumpreneur Conference - an inspiring day in the company of like-minded business ladies.

So this week is Mums in Business Week in the UK & so off I went to the inaugural Mumpreneur Conference in Birmingham to meet some of the Mums I chat to on Twitter, Facebook & the like in person.

We all had a great day & the prize winners were all delighted with the recognition they deserved for all their hard work.  There were some great seminars on PR, website developent, SEO & personal management as well two very inspirational speakers.

All in all the day reminded me how much I enjoy being a Mumpreneur & why I chose this route after having children.  Sharing experiences & opinions with others who have often worked harder than me was inspiring & has revitalised me in my work developing Creative Casting.

There's a write up of the event by Antonia Chitty - winner of 'The Most Inspirational Mum in Business' award - on her blog & later this week I'll mention a few of the websites of the winners as well as some of the great ladies I met that day.
